Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If I could describe my students in one word, it would be resilient. These kids know the challenges in the world and want to overcome them head on. We discuss real world events and problems and their desire to make the world better for them and the future generations is inspiring.
My students come into my classroom each day eager to learn something new.
Their ability to take what we learn and relate to an aspect of their own lives or even something happening in the world around them is astonishing.
Many have or are currently facing financial hardships. While this may be the case for my students, this doesn't stop them from working hard academically as well as from creating a warm, welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.
My Project
As educators, we have learned that group work makes learning more engaging for our students. Not only does this bundle facilitate group work, but it also facilitates the flexibility to move around for the variety of projects we do in our project-based learning space.
My classroom focuses on the needs of individual students and recognizing that not all students learn the same.
Whether we're doing group work or independent work, this bundle will allow us to accommodate for anything and everything my students choose to pursue in the many learning activities we do throughout the year.
We learned about the process for how a bill becomes a law through the students proposing and passing their own bills. We mocked the process that our Congress follows and the bill the students decided to send to the President (me) was more flexible and more comfortable seating. The students watching how their proposed project has come to life will be incredibly empowering for every single one of them and will surely give them faith in our system.
I've also added to my project a set of 24 book bins to improve classroom organization.
