This Teacher Needs to Pass the Test!

I need praxis study guides to help me become a better-qualified teacher for my second language learners.

This project expired on May 10, 2022.

My Students

I am a special education teacher at one of the best schools around. We are a Pre-k-5 school with over 1000 students from diverse backgrounds and diverse learning abilities. We are part of a larger learning community, and we engage our neighboring community in food banks, a needy child fund, a telemedicine clinic, club day, leadership events, parent nights, a Good News Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls Inc and so much more!

We are a "Leader In Me" school where everyone can be a leader.

Everyone has genius, and we develop the whole child by building relationships and empowering students. We are a diverse school where students speak over 40 languages. Despite our large size, we partner up for many things, and relationships are built beyond your own classroom. We do club days where students from multiple grades work together on things that interest them. Older students often give up their recess to help the younger students practice sight words and math facts. At our school, Learners and Leaders SHINE!

My Project

I was recently accepted to a free 16 weeks long, online course, that will give me an ESL endorsement on my teaching license. I applied because my school is one of the most diverse in the county with over 40 languages spoken! Many students are born here with parents who are foreign-born, but others arrive knowing zero English. I need to learn skills and strategies to help these students.

At the end of this class, I will have to take the PRAXIS test; and just by taking one open-book quiz, I already know I am out of my league.

I haven't been a college student in 2 decades and never online! These study guides will help me focus my learning on what is needed to pass the test and ultimately be able to help my students who are Special Education and learning English as a Second Language.

I've also chosen two other books. One will hopefully help me understand diverse parent needs at the IEP meetings and the other will help me learn strategies for reading and writing for those who are English learners.
