My students need a class set of the novel, Life of Pi. This novel would be a wonderful way to end the year and expand their imaginations.

My Students
As a teacher in a low socioeconomic community, I get these kids who think they can't succeed every year. Have no fear, through the course of their time under my care, each and everyone will experience success, a love of literature, pride, challenges, improvements, and results they doubted were in them. I know this because I have seen it time and time again. It is why I'm an educator. There's no real trick or magic to these results. It's a matter of high expectations, quality lessons, guidance, and rapport.
My Project
As this school year has unfolded, my students have been exposed to novels that have allowed them to understand a person by "climb[ing] into his skin and walk[ing] around in it.". Stories that let them know "I've got you to to look after me and you got me to look after you." Through our unit on the Holocaust, we've read accounts which urge these young souls to be advocates. And through Poe's dark world, we've seen how words can thrill us.
There's only one thing left to do.
With your help, I want to spark my students' imagination. I believe exposing my kids to Life of Pi will do that and more. With this novel, my students will not only gain perspective on the craft of storytelling, but understand a variety of religions and philosophies, look into the need of balance of rational and irrational, and navigate through challenging ideas.
