My Project

Independent reading is extremely important to develop students' literacy. In a world of digital dementia the skills that come from reading are often times lost. By the time kids get to high school, students who enjoy reading for pleasure are a rarity, or so it seems. This project intends to prove to the children of my school that there are books that they can find and lose themselves in.

Independent reading will be a mandated requirement for my students this year.

I've been fortunate enough to build an amazing library with the help of previous generous donors. I have shifted through the lists of classics, contemporaries, comics and requests and hope to restock my library once again. My current, former and future student's will be able to check and borrow books from my class to expand their love of reading.

I have been working at my school for the last 7 years. Primarily I focus on 9th-10th graders however my students from previous years often come to borrow books for their own recreational reading. I even have had graduates come back to ask me for books and return my books from college. It is with your generosity I have decorated my classroom with words and given my kids a new passion in reading. Please allow me to continue to do so. Peace and blessings.
