Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a charter school that encourages collaborative education. All students are encouraged to join and they learn hands-on STEM skills. My students are creative, industrious and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to collaboratively and creatively come up with design, implementation, and solutions.
To create a competition-ready robot, my students use a number of soft and hard STEM skills, creativity and problem-solving are essential in building a 'bot that can complete obstacles.
Robotics teams provide the same opportunity for students (much like traditional sports teams) to strengthen leadership skills, learn to cooperate with others, improve social interaction skills, better regulate emotions, and learn the highs and lows of competing.
My Project
Our students design, code and build a robot to perform 3 tasks. Our school is a Title 1 school with 46.4% qualifying as low income. We give the students the opportunity to work in groups to collaborate and successfully build a working robot. Everyone is accepting onto this team regardless of experience or technical levels.
This laptop will help our students excel in programming and designing and building a functional robot.
We currently are using an antiquated laptop and are having problems with the coding and CAD design due to outdated technology.
Students are mentored throughout the build season and are encouraged to try all areas of STEM.
