Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an educator with 27 years of experience in Newark, NJ. I was a classroom teacher for 11 years and have worked the past 16 years as a Literacy Coach, all in the same school. Next year, I am returning to the classroom as a 5th Grade ELA Teacher. I am thrilled to connect with students on a more personal level again and I am focused on helping them to become fluent and confident readers.

Students often begin to lose interest in reading in the intermediate grades, but I am excited to spark that interest again.

It all starts with a love for reading and I wholeheartedly believe the classroom library is at the heart of it all.

My goal is to provide the best possible environment for my students that will help them to become engaged and skilled readers. They often lack the resources or support at home.

I would love to create a library that just begs them to read. I have many beautiful books that I can't wait for students to delve into, but the classroom doesn't have any of the other items that are needed to create the inviting library my students desperately need and deserve. It is so important to me to provide this for them, but I am starting from scratch. Any help will be greatly appreciated and will make an immeasurable difference in the lives of students.
