My Project

A class set of the book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, will continue to enhance students’ interest in reading. Many have had a special stuffed animal, action figure, or toy. This is a classic children's tale of hope, loss, change, and most importantly love. I find students’ interest in not just the happiest parts of life, but they want to know about all the different feelings they have. Through Edward Tulane, they can investigate the ups and downs of life in a safe way through a toy, but also through feelings that are expressed in a very real way.

Investigating their feelings through a book also helps them as they have navigated through the difficult times and feelings related to the Covid virus.

Also, with this new exciting set of class books, my students will be able to continue to improve their reading skills, read for longer periods due to interest in the book, and become better readers.

Each time we read from an interesting class book I can feel the energy and excitement in the room to discuss what happens next, how the students relate to the characters, how they have done similar things, and how they feel about different parts of the book. This all leads to developing reading comprehension and higher reading skills.

Furthermore, this is a book that all levels in my classroom will be able to read, so there will not be a feeling of frustration, but SUCCESS! I look forward to students being able to understand their feelings better through a wonderful book and becoming more successful readers!
