My students come to school every day eager to learn. I want to give them an exciting and interesting learning experience while they are there. I am striving to inspire them so learning will continue as they leave the classroom door at the end of our school day. I want the lessons I teach them to make their lives fruitful and happy.
I teach in a high poverty, inner city public school with a population of almost 700 students.
More than a third of our students are Special Needs students. Many are part of the Autism Program that is housed in my school. Almost half are English Language Learners. All students receive a free breakfast and lunch every day. I want to feed their minds, as well as the school feeds their bodies. I would like to instill in them a lifelong love of learning and to respect and embrace the diversity of our wonderful school and community.
My Project
We are in a dilemma here in third grade. Our District is moving to Chromebooks and our rented computers are being removed. Of course, our District can only supply so many Chromebooks per school and we are going to be without any in our classroom.
My students need internet and word processing access on a daily basis so that they can visit differentiated educational sites and practice basic keyboarding and word processing skills.
I am requesting three Acer Chromebooks with licenses, 3 Wireless Portable Mobile Mice, 3 Protec Kids Headphones with Adjustable Volume and 3 Kensington Combination Cable Locks to ensure they are safe and secure. These tools will allow us to have a technology center in our classroom so that my students will have access to technology that is not available to most of them in their homes. My students want to be the best they can and these Chromebooks will give them the chance to become computer literate, as is necessary for all students today.
