Third Grade Reading for Success: Any Path, Any Pace

My students need 10 book bins.

My Students

My students deserve the opportunity to read GOOD books! Any Path, Any Pace is a chance for third grade students to get their hands on BOOKS!! I have a very limited classroom library and need books to begin a NEW and exciting reading program in my classroom.

We are a high poverty school district in Southern Illinois.

Our county is considered one of the most rural and economically depressed in the state. With funding at an all-time low, it is impossible for students to get their little hands on new and innovative reading materials. My third grade classroom has 26 students, ranging in age from 8 to 10. I have purchased many leveled (or ability coded) books using my classroom book order funds and my own money. Sadly, this does not begin to build an adequate classroom library. Books are expensive and are often not considered a "necessity" in many school districts. I am simply requesting the money donated to this project to be used for BOOKS that my students will be able to read every day. I appreciate your consideration of my project and my students. They are worth every penny!

My Project

These new books will change the climate of my classroom. My classroom library contains a meager assortment of hand-me-down books, torn paperbacks and lack-luster magazines donated by a few parents. By receiving this new classroom library, my students will have new and exciting stories to read that will inspire and ignite their imaginations. They will be able to use these classroom books to spark a life-long hobby, as well as to write book reports and check out to read with their families. By obtaining a group of leveled readers, I will be able to organize and recommend books that I know students will be able to read independently. By donating to this project, many students will be affected in a positive way.

In closing, I want to add that this project does not simply reward students short-term, but will provide the opportunity for third graders in my little, small town with books for many years to come.

Thank you so much for your consideration of this project!
