My Students

My classroom is one of five third grade rooms in an amazing district in Iowa. I teach two sections of math and science each day. Our room is filled with hands-on learning throughout the day.

Engineers, mathematicians, scientists, designers, perfect words to describe the third graders in my classroom!

Daily, students are asked to collaborate, investigate, and provide solutions for real-world problems. Learning is inquiry-based, meaning students ask questions and then investigate possible solutions to their questions. The students are the leaders in the classroom. My job as their teacher is to guide them in their discoveries.

My Project

My students are going to be using math and science skills to create small landscaping projects. They will be doing research to decide what types of plants will grow best in our climate, measuring to determine the area and perimeter of their landscaping, and growing starter plants to place in the landscaping.

The greenhouses requested in this project will give students the opportunity to see a plant grow from a seed into a beautiful plant.

In addition, the greenhouses will be used for years to come as future classes are able to continue this project. The other materials requested will enhance this learning experience as well.
