We are a Title I school in a low socioeconomical area. Over 70% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. The staff has been working extremely hard this past year to support each student in literacy and math. As funding is low, many of our supplies are donated through a local church and volunteers. Despite these obstacles, our school has heart and determination to succeed.
The students are excited about many of the new changes being brought about and are ready to hit the ground running.
Teachers are eager to prepare the materials we need to push them to their potential.
New ink for our classroom printer means saved money for our school. My class has been focusing on improving their writing before state testing. As the date steadily approaches, we are using more and more articles to practice responding to multiple texts.
Each student benefits from their having their own articles to write on and refer to.
They can underline, highlight, and make marginal notes to build evidence and elaboration in their essays. They have worked so hard to improve their writing skills by using close reading strategies. Having the ability to write on their sources is essential to mastering these skills.
The laminating pouches will be used to laminate task cards for unpacking writing prompts and practice planning pages. The plan is to reuse them over and over again, saving resources in the long run!
