This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My astronomy students come from diverse backgrounds, and are determined to investigate, challenge ideas, and come up with solutions. In Astronomy, they approach every topic and concept with an open mind, sharp intellect, and with a powerful voice. I am intentional about empowering my students to observe the world around them, but we don't always have the necessary tools to level the playing field.

These telescopes will expose my future astronomers to the wonders of space exploration, provide them with hands-on experience, and foster a love of science for years to come.

Having access to these materials will show them that STEM is for everyone, and that they more than deserve a seat at the table. They are natural critical thinkers, and are not afraid to question everything. These telescopes will make them look at the night sky in a brand new light, which they are sometimes unaware of because of the "concrete jungle" we're living in.
