Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Post Covid, students seem to be more squiggly and wiggly than usual, have difficulties staying engaged, and need more time and tools to deescalate themselves. My goal for this project is to create a learning space that accommodates the needs of students with academic and behavioral challenges and teach my students to deescalate themselves appropriately.

The wiggle seats, chair bands, wobble stools and the Gillam balance chairs all serve as a way to give students an opportunity to move while remaining seated.

In addition, these products allow students an opportunity to choose alternate seating. which gives students voice and choice.

Next, the sensory toys will assist in creating a place for students to deescalate themselves. Also, learning how to identify their feelings using the Spot On book and feeling toys will help students learn how to talk to each other and adults in an emotionally healthy manner!
