Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We participate in No Excuses University and our class is College Bound! Every morning we start our day with the Eagles chant. Our school is also heavily focused on the arts and is an Academy of Creative Expression.
My students are busily preparing for middle school and I want them to have everything they need to be successful.
They enjoy being positive role-models for the younger students on campus. Our school serves a very diverse population and the majority of the students are from low-income families. They always arrive eager to learn, full of curiosity, and with a desire to showcase their knowledge in new, creative ways.
My Project
To be able to instill a love of reading in each of my students is the ultimate goal. When my students express an interest in a certain series or author, I want to do everything in my power to provide access to those books.
Many students in my class have been reading the Chris Colfer series "The Land of Stories," and they are begging for more copies!
Our school library does not have these titles and I would love your support to provide these books for my students. The items we are requesting are books from the 'Land of Stories," series, the, "Max Crumbly," series, and the "Kid Presidents," series. These books are highly interesting to my students and are all part of our Accelerated Reader program which will allow my students to take a quiz on each book as they complete it. The Accelerated Reader (AR) program tracks student progress as they move toward meeting book level, points, and comprehension accuracy goals.
