My students need a classroom set of plays to read; I'd like for them to experience the classic play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, by Edward Albee.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
92% of our student population qualifies as Title I and receives free and reduced lunch. My job teaching theatre to our students is very important because for many of them, this is the only time during the day that they get to use their imagination and play. I know, I used the word play. I can actually get teenagers to play, and even forget about their responsibilities at home in watching their siblings or working a job to help their family with expenses. Yes, it's only for about an hour a day, but it makes all the difference in my student's perception of themselves and how they fit into society.
Theatre allows my students to become anything they want, and while in my classroom, they are no longer restricted by the limits their peers, parents, or society puts on them.
I get to see teenagers transform and allow themselves to be vulnerable; they improve their communicative skills and express themselves. It's amazing to see. I'd like for my students to experience various forms of theatre, but we need your help.
My Project
Having a class set of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf will allow my students to experience classic theatre by reading and performing it themselves. We will be able to analyze the content as a class and engage in discussions on its content. After reading and understanding the play, my students will have an understanding of each character and will then be able to select and learn monologues and duologues to perform for their peers. This play includes many important themes and will allow my students to critically evaluate the relationships and societal expectations of the main characters. I'm excited to the connections they make.
