Bozhoo! That is how you say hello in Ojibwe. I teach first-grade students in a school that is located on a Native American reservation. Most of my students come from generational poverty, which can bring trauma. Every year, I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved.
My students start each day eager to learn, create, and explore.
My job, as their teacher, is to help each child reach their full potential. I do my best to find engaging lessons that will help them grow personally and academically, so that they can develop a better understanding of the world around them.
My Project
Winter is here in Northern Minnesota! Most of my students have full winter gear (coat, snow pants, boots, hats, and mittens). Each day, we have a couple children that have forgotten their winter boots and snow pants at home. I currently have three extra pairs of snow pants, but am in need of boots. If the children don't have full winter gear, they are not able to play in the snow, because it is not safe for them.
Recess is the best part of the day and first graders need play in their lives!
The magnetic hooks will be placed on the outside of each locker. These will be used to hang snow pants on after recess, so that they can dry. I am also asking for three boot trays that will be placed on top of the lockers.
