My students need high interest, non-fiction reading materials to strengthen their fluency and comprehension, encouraging them on the path to college and career readiness. The WHAT IS... book series promotes reading enjoyment through Common Core standards.

My Students

As a teacher in a growing school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite being faced with challenges, these students are resilient and motivated to doing their best work. I am looking forward to keeping things entertaining and educational while providing my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, open-minded, and excited about learning.

These kids like to move and love lots of positive attention. Many of them struggle with conventional learning strategies, so they need classroom manipulatives and a differentiated environment. I may not be able to control what their world looks like, but I can control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

These books will enhance and highlight the word-friendly classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I have zebra print pillows, stools, and rugs where they can complete work and read independently. Every student book that is placed in my library is available to any person who is interested. With my students in mind, I have chosen these books for their high-interest content. I have watched them as they read, listened to their excited story-tellings, and enjoyed them eagerly listening while a fellow student describes the characters Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

These new books will encourage my students to choose from a variety of subject matter while allowing them to read independently at their own grade level.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the written word.
