My Students

My students are diverse. They run the gamut of social economics - from financially fortunate to poverty level. Some have very stable homes, while others are military and on the move or have troubled home lives, which make school second in line when it comes to priority.

I teach honors and AP Biology but they are not always eager learners.

Most of my students read at grade level, but lack excitement for science in general. I find most wanting to go for more traditional career paths such as business or communications. I am constantly trying to make science relevant and engaging for them as a result.

My Project

The items on my list are to be used for both my Honors Biology and AP Biology. Some of the items such as the picture capturing microscope, hot plate, and will help enhance learning in the classroom in a more fun engaging way that is unique from their other classes. I have wanted these items for a long time, but our limited budget often only covers our consumables each year and does not allow us a lot of wiggle room.

Other items such as the school supplies and toothpicks are consumables that I often have to buy every year for my students to us in class or for labs for content areas such as enzyme functionality and cell membrane transport.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
