My Project

In both Chemistry and AP Chemistry, we discuss thermodynamics at the start of the second semester. Students are able to relate their own knowledge of energy transfer to fundamental chemistry principles through a series of lab experiments. In AP Chemistry, they use their labs to perform calculations necessary for them to succeed on the AP exam later in the fall. By visualizing endothermic and exothermic reactions, like baking soda and vinegar and the combustion of steel wool with a 9V battery, students are able to draw connections between the math they are doing and the phenomenon that they have seen.
