My Students
My School is home to 265 awesome kiddos. Our school is one of 8 elementary schools in the Illinois District. Our school district was recognized as a National District of Character in 2017 because of our outstanding families and educators. Our students have varied learning styles, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school houses eight K-6 classrooms as well as four special needs classrooms. Over 67% of our students are identified as low-income families. Many of the students also receive Operation Backpack with supplemental food each weekend.
My students are creative, energetic and fun!
Some of our students suggested forming a Drama Club in the fall of 2017. A committee was formed and we put on two small productions in the fall. Excitement has spread throughout the school to be a part of the Drama Club and the club is looking to put on a bigger production in the spring, including students of all ages and abilities. Thank you for helping our kids reach for the stars!
My Project
Theatre is the single most valuable place where kids can explore the endless possibilities of their imaginations and what they can do. Navigating through a theatre world is daydreaming in motion. It can be a wondrous and nurturing place to grow. There are many benefits in being involved. The students will enhance their creativity, teaches morals, builds self-esteem, builds focus, improves memory and teaches them to work together in a cooperative manner. These skills will help make them more confident, productive individuals in life.
This play is an open concept, adapted to require the fewest props, costumes and set pieces as possible.
The items requested will serve as the props and costumes for the production. We want the students to convey their personality through acting rather than costume. For example, the cloth will be used to indicate wind. The cast members will billow it around to give a storm effect. Each Dorothy will wear a wig and ruby slippers. With the open concept we will be able to perform on a budget and only require few costume and prop pieces.
