Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 150 physics students, ranging from 10th grade to 12th grade, all of whom inspire me every day. They are hardworking, motivated students that try their everyday in my classroom. Unfortunately, in my community, most of my students work in order to contribute to their families incomes and personal expenses. This does not stop their enthusiasm to learn. The students at my school are funny, caring, and an overall cohesive community that you can see as soon as you walk onto our campus.
How are physics students expected to learn without the proper materials for labs and projects?
This is why I ask for your help in funding my classroom. For the past few years I have financed all of the projects that have occurred in my room. We have build cardboard carts that have to carry a bowling ball, spaghetti bridges, balloon launcher for projectile motion demonstrations, and many more. Physics Class is not just about the content. My students learn about problem solving, critical thinking, working in groups, communication skills, and overall scientific literacy with hands on learning. As their teacher, I am trying to prepare this generation of students to become well-rounded, productive citizens.
My Project
Physics uses mathematics to describe the natural phenomena that happen around us every day. While students are encouraged to complete mathematical calculations by hand, it is useful to have a calculator near by. I am asking for TI-30X calculators and a pocket holder for my students so that I can have a class set in my room.
With your donation, students will have access to calculator during class to ease their time when solving word problems!
Mathematical literacy is very important for students to master before beginning college and regular adult life. By having calculators provided in the classroom, it ensures their success for the future.
