My students are in sixth grade. They are eager to learn but often don't get the opportunity to experience things outside of the classroom setting. I have a wide variety of ability levels in my room. There are some who work well in groups, and others which work best alone. My goal is to implement strategies and activities that help them in and out of my math classroom. I want them to appreciate and enjoy math in new and exciting ways that make them become lifelong learners.
My Project
I want my students to dig deeper then the basic math facts in my classroom. I want them to understand the why and enjoy math while learning. True understanding in math is when you can explain how to solve a problem to one of your peers. To do this I want my students to participate in colllabrative study groups. Collaborative study groups allow for students to work together to help each other solve problems with their peers that are posed by the teacher. Students are able to learn from each other. These dry erase board easels, dry erase makers, erasers, chart paper, and pens will help make that possible because students will have everything they need to participate in these groups. These materials will also help me remediate my EC and ESL students in small groups.
