I have been at my school for the past 7 years. During that time, I have worked with a team of teachers in implementing AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies in my 6th Grade Math classroom. This has not been an easy task. But one I decided to take on, with my fellow math department. Recently our school became a National AVID demonstration school. Our school serves about 840 students ranging from grades 6-8. We are a Title 1 school, 72% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students are sixth grade students who are eager to learn, but often don't get the opportunity to experience things outside of the classroom setting. My goal is to implement strategies and activities that help them in and out of my classroom. I want them to appreciate and enjoy math in new and exciting ways that make them become life long learners.

About my class
