I teach at a NYC specialized school. In describing our organization, we use the motto "Where we learn to work and work to learn." I work primarily with students who are between the ages of 14 and 18, and as a classroom team, we do our best to prepare our students for the workforce, while offering these students with special needs the most rigorous high school curricular experience possible.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, my students' technology skills have grown significantly, and I wish to further that development.
We moved away from whiteboards, pencils, and paper to smart boards, keyboards, and digital documents. Not only has my classroom joined the 21st century in terms of technology, but we have also become a green classroom that produces less waste and uses less organic material, benefitting our environment for all generations, current and future.
Each student in my classroom is eager to learn, although the methods and environments in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met. Their access to tools is paramount, which is why my DonorsChoose project is so crucial.
These laptops and the charging cart will give my students the tools to grow academically and technologically in our post-COVID-19 world.
They will become better prepared for future work and become better potential employees by learning 21st-century skills, making them more marketable and desirable to employers.
They will be working with all the components of Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Forms, etc.), and they will be using these devices to conduct internet research, furthering their awareness and understanding of the world we live in. "You're only as strong as the tools in your toolbox." Thanks!
