I am one of the occupational therapists at the Scott County Preschool Center where we serve children in 13 different classrooms. All students need hands on experiences for facilitating fine motor skills, visual motor skills, visual perceptual skills and sensory processing skills. I'm constantly looking for activities and toys to stimulate and challenge my young learners and to give them different and exciting new experiences. Part of my job is to help the teachers find new toys and activities to help facilitate specific skills that the children need on a daily basis. These skills are vital for developing independence in my students most important job - play!

My Project
Every student that receives occupational therapy within the classroom needs specific skills facilitated daily by the teacher and/or classroom staff for optimal progress. These skills are sometimes hard for the teacher to implement due to increased class size and academic demands. For example, the OT may ask the teacher to increase the amount of visual perceptual tasks throughout the childs day, giving her a list of activities that would facilitate this skills. However, due to increased class size and increased academic demands the teacher may have limited time to figure out what activity to do ever day.
These task boxes will be an easy way for the teacher to implement an individualized OT activity daily, thus maximizing time and progress on a specific skill.
