My Project

Since our school opened this past August, I've had the pleasure of working with many wonderful students in various grades from Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Due to being a brand new site, we have had limited supplies and materials and continue to slowly build but luckily our staff and students have been resilient and shown much creativity thus far!

As a speech therapist, I have been working in multiple classrooms to support students needing various levels of support with their communication skills.

Many of my students really benefit from using real objects and engaging visuals/materials to support their learning of vocabulary and language and to help them further access the academic curriculum. Many of my students are still learning appropriate social/play skills so having real objects like play food, What's Inside, and Building Language Lotto will help my language students that are working on basic vocabulary skills, sorting/categories, and describing in addition to those working on social/functional communication skills such as requesting/protesting, commenting, and sharing. I also work with a handful of students from various cultural and diverse backgrounds so having books and puppets that better represent them will help them increase personal and world knowledge and understanding during my social skills classes. I also work with some students to improve articulation skills so having engaging activities such as the birds/logs will help keep my students motivated and focused.
