My students need the proper materials to continue learning costume design and construction. Sewing machines and sewing tables along with an adjustable dress form will allow them to create and build costumes for our productions.
This project expired on November 24, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are lovers of theatre and study all aspects of theatrical storytelling: script analysis, acting, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design, as well as theatrical marketing and business management. I am constantly seeking ways to bring more authenticity to their creative processes so that they can see their ideas brought to life on stage. My students appreciate the collaborative nature of theatre and value all performance and technical contributions to our shows. By studying theatre, my students are better able to understand the human experience and become valuable contributors to society and their community.
With the addition of two sewing machine stations and a dress form to our design studio, students will be able to create costumes that meet the specific needs of each school production. They will also learn how to alter and mend existing costumes in our stock. Having our own costume shop will give us more independence within the production process as well as prepare students to pursue careers in costume or fashion design. I would love to see a student sketch a costume design idea and then be able to build that costume, fit it to an actor, and see it worn on stage in front of an audience. The autonomy and empowerment would provide a memorable learning experience for individual students while contributing to our overall collaborative effort.
