With the addition of two sewing machine stations and a dress form to our design studio, students will be able to create costumes that meet the specific needs of each school production. They will also learn how to alter and mend existing costumes in our stock. Having our own costume shop will give us more independence within the production process as well as prepare students to pursue careers in costume or fashion design. I would love to see a student sketch a costume design idea and then be able to build that costume, fit it to an actor, and see it worn on stage in front of an audience. The autonomy and empowerment would provide a memorable learning experience for individual students while contributing to our overall collaborative effort.
