My Project

My students are highly motivated to learn and a joy to work with. Many of my students deal with trauma and emotional dysregulation. They are forced to accept and deal with situations their young minds may not be ready for.

Having a non-threatening safe space is necessary for my students to cope with daily expectations and challenges.

A calming space in the classroom works because it gives students a structured way to regulate their emotions instead of reacting impulsively. Designated calming areas help to reduce sensory overload, build self-regulating skills, create psychological safety, allow time to reset thinking, prevent disruptions from spreading, and encourage a routine for recovery. With the funding of this project, my students will have the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom and on campus.
