Writing is an area of learning that sticks with you from early childhood on. Strong writing skills not only help as you continue in your academic career but also when you enter the workforce. For my 16 4th graders I want the journey through writing to be exciting and enjoyable. I want them to realize that writing is a journey with many stops along the way and that there is something to learn at every stop. The materials I have requested will take them through this journey step by step using a variety of materials. They will be able to create their own book, magazine pages and newspapers. They will learn how to be poets through a poetry center kit which takes them from acrostic to limerick poems. The write and publish center will allow them to create things such as travel brochures and filmstrips. The respond to literature activity center will allow students to respond to what they read through a variety of graphic organizers. Finally the hamburger pocket chart will enable me to show my students exactly what parts need to be contained in each paragraph. These materials will greatly enrich the writing of my students by providing them with many new and unique writing opportunities. I will be able to use many of these materials again year after year so your donation will not only help the 16 children I currently teach but the future writers coming to me each year. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of becoming strong, expressive writers.
