To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the inner music the words make. ~Truman Capote
The pencil and paper are powerful tools but we still need a folder to keep our drafts organized.
My students are incredible.
I have 25 motivated English Learner students eager to learn. My students come from a low socioeconomic background with limited resources available. We are a Title 1, Performance Improvement school with 100% free lunch program. Many parents work 2 jobs and are struggling to support the family.
Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, they have an insatiable love of learning. I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
I want to create a writing folder for my students to use for easy reference during Writer's Workshop. I am using Nancy Fetzer's writing strategies to aid my children's writing but she has many reference materials the children can use. That's why these folders are perfect! There are 8 sleeves that reference sheets can be placed in for easy access. I will be working with a small group so the rest of the class has to work independently.
Writing is so crucial because it expresses who you are as a person. Encouraging students to develop strong writing skills at a young age, will enable them to become a better writer as they get older. Mastering writing skills can have a lifelong positive impact and writing can be an enjoyable process.
Getting a head start with writing at an early age will contribute to the future success as a student and as an adult.
The folders will be a great way to reference graphic organizers, lists, and tools to aid in a successful writing program!
