This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach wonderful and amazing students with autism, ADHD (other health impaired), students with intellectual disabilities, and specific learning disabilities in the areas of reading, writing, and math. I teach students who are Emotionally Disturbed (some suffer from PTSD from experiencing traumatic events in their young lives). I teach students with traumatic brain injury and students with Down Syndrome. All these students have one thing in common...they strive to do their best on a daily basis so I must rise to their needs, challenge them and help them succeed in their educational adventures.
When in the classroom and throughout the school environment, we work on reading, writing, math, social skills, behavior management, organizational skills, pre-reading/writing/math skills, staying focus, and staying on task skills.
I am constantly searching the web for new, innovative and differentiated ways to approach my students' learning needs and to share them with the general education teachers as well. As a special educator, we are not given a "curriculum" and rely on our observations, experience, and the students' personality, goals, and individual needs to guide us along on this journey.
I love my students to the moon and back!
Small area...BIG learning! My special needs classroom is extremely small, and we are in need of a table that both fits the size of our room and the need for a space to achieve goals in the areas of written expression, math, and many more.
The cubby feature of this table allows for materials to be within reach but also takes clutter away from the writing space of the students (clutter often affects the students' attention/focus and can make them anxious).
This table allows for small groups to work together. Grouping students in small groups fosters peer interaction, social skills, behavior management, cooperation, turn-taking, and many more skills and character traits. Please help us have a place to learn in our small area!
