My Students

My students come from loving families who work hard to make sure that they have the basic necessities of life. Education is important to these families, and they instill in their children the importance of an education. To show you how hard the families are working to make sure their children take advantage of their education, I see a 90% return of homework which gives them additional learning time in math and reading (including oral fluency). My students are becoming amazing readers, and are also becoming more confident in their abilities to share orally.

My students are learning to use their voice to communicate ideas, to entertain and educate, and to advocate for change; they are filling their toolbox with strategies and tools that will help to change the world for the better.

My Project

Our school theme this year is, "The World's Going to Know your Name." It is a campaign to let the students know they are resilient, they are trustworthy, they will survive this, they will make a difference, and they will give hope to the world. Help my students step into the shoes of Charlie Bucket as they perform Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for the whole school and community. What better story than that of Charlie Bucket to help the students know they can change the world for the better and offer hope to others.

As the students gain confidence in their ability to perform/communicate, they will then not be afraid to use their voice to advocate for change - which is what is so needed in this world today.

Please help me broaden our horizons and increase our opportunities in the world of the visual and performing arts.

I remember being young and thinking things were tough at home and in my world. When I engaged in this story, I felt hope that things could get better, and that I could make that happen. This story, in this context, changed my/our world - for the better. This is the message the students/community need to survive today's struggles that are happening all over the world- things will get better.

James and the Giant Peach, Vocabulary Super Heroes, and A Musical Journey Through Poetry Land are just a few of the performances (reader's theater) that my students have done in the past. Every year since I started teaching (over 30), my students have put on amazing performances. Please know the costumes and props in my cart can be used again for other performances.
