The World Belongs to Those Who Read!

My students need a more diverse collection of books! They need a quality bookshelf to store these books on. They also need book boxes, so that each week they can call these books there own!

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school. This means that the majority of my students come from low-income families. I'm so thankful that my students don't let this define them. Each year I get a new set of 3rd graders ready and eager to learn. As you can imagine students come into my classroom on various reading and math levels, but through the integration of subjects, I am able to keep them engaged across every content level. They love building relationships with their teacher and each other. My classroom is always filled with laughter, fun, and most of all students who love to learn!

My Project

I teach in a school where 90% of the students are low income and African American. As an African American teacher, I believe it's important for every child to see themselves as a protagonist! That's why I have chosen to add some diversity to my classroom library.

I want my students to know that the world belongs to them as well.

The bulk of my project includes books with minorities as the main character. I have also included a new bookshelf for my students to store their books on. In my classroom, we spend time reading for information and for enjoyment. My students will store their books in their new book boxes that I've also included in my project.

These items will be used daily when school begins this August! This is just the start of my dream of having a place where my students love to come and read. Getting lost in a book was my favorite thing to do as a child, and I want to share that experience with every student I come across!
