My Students

Do you remember the book that had you hooked from the first word? That is what the book, Wonder, did to my students this past school year. They begged me to read every morning, wanting to learn more about the characters and their motives. I read the book as a read aloud, but it had such a profound impact on my students, I want to do a complete novel study this upcoming school year.

This book was life-changing for me and my students!

In my classroom, we are a family. We are kind in words and actions. We leave no one out. Wonder, supports those exact same values in a real-life, powerful story that touched the hearts of every student in my room. Many times, the lessons learned from the book really made students reflect on their own behaviors and reactions towards others. Many positive changes resulted from self-reflection and the impact of the story.

I teach in a large elementary school, nestled in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains. We are a Title I school, where many of our families struggle to get by. The school plays a big role in the lives of our students.

My Project

A class set of, Wonder, will allow each student the opportunity to interact with the text in a meaningful way. Students will get to respond to the story by writing in journals, having group and class discussions, responding to questions and doing character analysis.

This novel is packed in content and supports our state standards perfectly!

Students will be actively engaged in learning the state standards while reading a book that will change them forever.

The theme conveyed in, Wonder, is relevant to all students. In a world where bullying and school violence is on the rise, students need to connect with a story of hope and compassion.
