My Project

Welcome to our Economics and Personal Finance classroom! I teach a diverse, brilliant, and incredibly resilient group of high schoolers at a high-need, Title I eligible school. Every day, my students tackle heavy, real-world concepts like the government, the economy, market structures, businesses, budgeting, investing, market trends, macroeconomics and microeconomics. They are passionate about learning how the economy works because they want to build secure financial futures for themselves and their families.Because finance is best learned through teamwork, our classroom relies heavily on collaborative group projects such as the World Open Market Fair. My students huddle daily on their business plan portfolio, analyze case studies, run business simulations such as a break-even analysis, decision matrix on opportunity costs, marketing, websites, and media campaign portfolio to have a real world experience presenting their business to the community. Our seating is rigid, heavy plastic chairs that make collaboration difficult, while students are physically restless during long blocks of intense analytical thinking. The seating will give our students the advantage of moving their bodies to keep their minds flowing and focused on how they can make an impact in the community in which they serve.
