Our students are amazing! Many were born into poverty, are immigrants, or are refugees from other countries. Despite difficulties and hardships in their early and current lives, they come to school with smiles, eager, ready, and willing to learn and grow as part of our kindergarten community.
We often spend our own money on necessities for students, like clothing, sneakers, snacks, and books.
This doesn't allow us to purchase supplemental materials for the classroom that the curriculum doesn't provide, but enhances the kindergartners' learning and understanding immensely.
My Project
Most of our students have never been to a farm or have seen farm animals in person that they can pet, feed, observe and interact with. We have planned a field trip to a farm called Davis Farmland. Davis Farmland is a children’s discovery farm featuring animal interactions with over 100 breeds. It is North America’s largest sanctuary of endangered farm animals and has pretend play along with hay and pony rides. Admission to the farm will be over $1300 and that doesn’t include paying for the buses to get to and from the farm! Many of our students have only seen sheep, horses, alpacas and chickens on tv! At this farm they can not only see the animals but can touch, pet, feed, brush, hold and even milk many of them!
We are in need of two buses costing over $300 dollars each to get us safely to the farm in the morning and back to the school in the afternoon.
We ask students and their families to cover the cost of the farm admission which is already quite a large amount of money for our families who all receive free lunch and breakfast at school daily. This trip won’t be possible without two buses to transport us safely to and from our destination.
