As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, including the recent flood calamity, I would like my students to be successful in their high school life. Creating life long learning students will be possible with the presence of technology in their classroom. Students will be creative when they can visualize the lessons and will learn faster when provided with meaningful learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
My students are willing to learn and many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.
The typical student in my class reads below grade level and many struggle with basic reading, comprehension, and analytical reasoning. With the latest technology, my students' understanding with the lesson will widen.
Having a touch screen technology readily available inside the classroom can help make a lot of things more convenient. The modern technology innovation is much faster and the allotted time frame of 15 minutes for each group would be met. This will make my project more meaningful and enjoyable. Student will get excited about the subject because they can visualize and understand the lesson more when they view the class as relevant to themselves and connected to their interests.
This year we are focusing on the different types of waves.
Students will be divided into 5 groups and place them in different learning stations. Every 15 minutes the students will move from one station to another station. Each station has their own activities to do and one of the stations is called a Research Station. In this station, the students will find a current events article on something that must do with the waves. They will summarize the article and describe the relevance to the lesson on waves. The teacher will provide websites where they can get more topics in current events. Every group that goes by the research station will summarize their chosen article and be given an opportunity to report it to the entire class. Every day will be an exciting day because I will be providing different topics for the students to look for. Exposing the students with the use of technology in the classroom will help them to develop their knowledge and skills through online research of relevant issues and current events, not just gaming. While they are in their own group, students will explore their topic by sharing their ideas, which is a good way of developing their critical and thinking skills, and to become cooperative learners.
