This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Step into our classroom on the most anticipated day of the school year, and you’ll find an atmosphere charged with an electric "buzz" that you can feel the moment you walk through the door. After months of "nurturing the seeds of financial literacy," my students are finally ready for the ultimate real-world test: our end-of-the-year class auction.

Throughout the school year, my students have been hard at work.

They have applied for class jobs, managed their "income", navigated the effects of "inflation" at our class store, and—most importantly—learned the discipline of long-term saving. This auction is the focal point of their financial journey. It is the day where every dollar they chose not to spend on a snack earlier in the year transforms into "capital" for the items they’ve had their eyes on for months.

For nearly every student in my room, this is the first authentic auction they will ever experience, and the excitement is palpable.

On auction day, the classroom transforms into a marketplace. With your support, I want to fill our auction block with rewards. We are looking to provide dozens of high-interest items, including sports equipment, toys, crafts, and—of course—plenty of snacks and treats.

Watching a student outbid their peers for a soccer ball or a box of Takis isn’t just fun—it’s a hands-on lesson in supply, demand, and the value of a hard-earned dollar. They walk away not just with bags full of prizes, but with the pride of knowing their year-long saving has paid off.

Each year, this auction is the event I look forward to most. It is the grand finale of our classroom culture and a celebration of my students' growth as "smart spenders." This will be my sixth year hosting this auction. Help me make this our biggest auction season yet!
