Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning, our diverse student body comes to school early so they can receive a free breakfast to start their day off right. 100% of our students qualify for a free lunch, and many of them are experiencing homelessness. These students need the opportunity to build teamwork, social-emotional skills, and work ethic in a safe school-sponsored space
Despite my students' tough circumstances, many of them want to be promising student-athletes like millions of teenagers around the country, and they deserve the opportunity to belong to something bigger than themselves.
Many of my student-athletes in my club want to either play sports in high school, or just be a part of one of the only clubs on campus. Long term, I want this club to be a point of pride for the school, the community, and an opportunity for students to build grit and leadership skills.
My Project
Much of my project goes directly toward items to make practice more effective, or toward jersey-making materials that can be used long-term for fundraising. The green-and-black vinyl can be heat-pressed to White T-Shirts to create a team shirt. We can then sell these as methods of fundraising.
This project will help build a sense of belonging in kids who desperately need something to belong to.
The athletic items will help enhance practices, and spark larger interest school-wide in joining in the next few years. Many students in our school have hopes of playing sports in high school. This club, and this project, will help build a positive program in the school, and prepare them for the future.
