My students will greatly benefit from these books, especially those such as The Hate U Give and Parrot in the Oven. These books have protagonists that my students can relate to, and see themselves in. I believe students do not dislike reading, they just haven't found the right book yet. At past schools, my students have expressed that they simply wanted books they could relate to. Many of my students are experiencing homelessness and do not have books at home. Others simply don't have quality books at home or cannot afford them. I want to create a diverse, representative classroom library, and a safe, secluded space to help them love reading again.
