This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students in Baltimore City have the tenacity and ability to change the world - I am lucky to see this every day! As a school community, we see the impact of violence, loss, and trauma daily. For students who experience either direct or vicarious trauma, the impact on their education can be significant. With these tools, I will be able to give support to students impacted by trauma to allow them the space and skills to heal. An interactive tablet experience will allow me to incorporate new experiences to teach compassion for self and others, bullying awareness, de-escalation skills, and evidence-based trauma techniques.

The tools available with the use of technology to support compassion and seeing the world through the eyes of another are plentiful!

We will use the technology to dive into the impact of bullying and its impact/effect on adolescents today. Students will engage in these activities in small groups and then become Student Ambassadors to promote being "upstanders" - standing up for those impacted by bullying. This program will be implemented for the 24-25 school year and we will measure success by comparing grade level student survey data to pre-implementation scores on questions related to bullying.
