As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges every day; both in and out of the classroom. Regardless of the many challenges they face, I am looking to instill pride in their learning as well as thinking about their future as 21st-century citizens.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households. Our school, as a whole, is on free and reduced lunch based on the majority of our socioeconomic status.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academics.
My Project
My students are in need of digital scales in order to weigh certain items and find the sum of its parts. The lessons I'm teaching relate to physical and chemical properties.
The donations for this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to become scientist and learn through hands-on experimenting.
My students enjoy Science and enjoy doing the hands-on experiments. Many of my students are visual learners. Using the digital scales will help them see the measurements and determine the weight of the parts and the whole item.
Thank you in advance for your donations to ensure the success of my students.
