Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever needed a second chance? That is exactly what my students are getting in the Success Academy. The Success Academy is a new program with a revolving door of students. There are 60 students enrolled at any given time, with new students entering whenever there is a graduate.

My students are mothers who left school to tend to their baby, who have dropped out because of unceasing academic failure, which diminishes their confidence and self worth, who live in poverty, tending to their younger siblings and working full time to help support their family.

They have true grit. Their resiliency and determination to obtain a diploma-some, the first in their family- is something to be admired.

The Success Academy differs from credit recovery because of the intensive support we (my co-teacher and I) provide. We build their confidence back up and guide them towards the life they always have wanted. Students work with us to develop a realistic plan for their life after graduation; we apply for college and financial aid, go on job hunts, participate in fitting vocational training, design resumes and so much more. Most importantly however, we help them build an exciting future for themselves.

My Project

We will use all of these items to make the classroom warm and inviting. This includes the bean bag chairs and the tranquil lighting filters. The printer will help my students by enabling them to print notes for their test, job applications, and resumes! My students need comforting classroom supplies and furniture to serve as an incentive to succeed! Thank you so much for your support on my project and my amazing classroom! Students will use these supplies to work with us to develop a realistic plan for their life after graduation; we apply for college and financial aid, go on job hunts, participate in fitting vocational training, design resumes and so much more. Most importantly however, we help them build an exciting future for themselves.
