Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school students come from a very diverse urban neighborhood. Our small learning community reflects this characteristic in the mix of cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and learning styles. For some of them, the challenges of living in such a neighborhood may present obstacles in their learning process. However, this diversity along with their willingness to learn, care and support each other has created an optimal learning environment. It is the reason that I am fortunate to call myself their teacher. When we learn, we enjoy engaging in activities that allow us to learn from each other through historical role-play, and project-based activities. As their teacher, I recognize that many of them struggle when it comes to evaluating and synthesizing informational text. It is a skill that we continue to practice as we learn from our mistakes.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of basic school supplies that will help us get organized and ready for an inspirational school year. Students will make use of all items like the folders and the pencil sharpener. I am looking forward to displaying all of the inspirational posters and decorations to brighten up their day. The large dry-erase posters and graphic organizers will assist them in sharing and collaborating while utilizing reusable materials. These items may seem like minor details, but given our reduced budget for the upcoming school year, they will make a significant difference in our daily operations. Thank you.
