The Skype's the Limit!

My students need a camera so they can take pictures, and a microphone so they can share them with others on Skype.

My Students

The world is huge, and my students need to be given the opportunity to contact others and share information, in order to enhance their learning. We will begin learning from others by using opals and Skye this year.

My students attend a school in a small Wisconsin community.

We have a large population of low income students. Our school has a very low budget, and the local taxpayers are hesitant, or unable, to support education with higher taxes. We are slowly infusing technology into our building, but it is often limited to one 45 minute class period in our computer lab once a week. My students need to be prepared for the 21st century just like everyone else, so they deserve to have access to more technology within my classroom.

My Project

I really want my students to be able to document projects, and class activities, with a digital camera that they can use within the classroom. In the past, I have had to use my own camera, therefore its use was usually limited to me taking the pictures, and just showing them to the children. If the students could take their own pictures, there are so many ways for us to utilize those pictures to share them with parents, other classes, or use them in assignments. We also can share with other students across the globe, using Skype. A good microphone will really help them to explain their ideas clearly, and because the microphone is wireless, it would allow several students to sit around it in order to share it more easily.

The students in my classroom will love having their own camera!

They haven't had this opportunity in our school before. They can take pictures, learn to download them, and learn how to utilize them in an educational way. One of the ways we will utilize them is by using Skype with another classroom, and with guest speakers. Pictures, and a nice microphone, will allow us to share our learning with others around the world. How exciting is that??
