This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know how difficult it is to teach and to learn only with theory? Science is a subject that requires a lot of investigation and hands on. Students will benefit a lot if they can use material for to experiment the concepts and not just the verbal explanation.

My students are eager to learn, even when they struggle to comprehend a topic.

Most of our students come from low income families and the extra curriculum activities come from the school itself. It is a low income area with many economic issues that not only affect the school to obtain supplies, but the students' families to encourage a higher education. I have some very potential students that in the right direction they will get far, just by given the opportunity to explore more.

My Project

I see my students every day for science class. I tried to go to different workshops to obtain hands on materials for the lab experiments planned for this 8th graders. The resources I am requesting will provide my students with a more vivid and colorful idea of what science is about: not just theory but testing opportunities to apply a concept in a real life world situation. The resources requested were based on the topic my school has obtained the lowest scores. My students will get the opportunity to experience different understanding of these landforms in terms of economical, political, environmental point of view. We will demo chemical reactions, weather convection currents, pro and cons of models and the world application in today's world.

Science is a hard topic to get as most of the content students at this age are not able to use.

Science is all around us, and I consider that these resources will increase students enthusiasm towards the subject. My hope is to provide them with an opportunity to notice that "science matters" not only to pass a State Exam but to the future generations. Hopefully they will feel incline to study a career as a scientist.
