This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
This project is inspired by the beautiful children's book "The Skin You Live In" by Michael Tyler. This preschool-friendly story teaches children the importance of diversity, acceptance, friendship, and self-esteem. It is a beautiful, child-friendly celebration of diversity, and I would like to take this lesson one step further. For our upcoming celebration of the Week of the Young Child, I would like to provide culturally responsive learning experiences to our young scholars through this storybook lesson.
Inclusive art projects like this help children understand themselves while also developing empathy and respect for those who are different from them.
The materials in this project will be used for the students across the program to create their own images and to share with fellow members of our school family. Students will be able to make connections between what they see in the story and what they see in the real world. This will also be a great way to make connections with their new friends and schoolmates as we begin the new year.
With your donation, we will be able to provide this culturally rich learning experience for your students.
