Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in Queens, New York. It is a multicultural neighborhood and our students are primarily English language learners. It is a high-poverty area, and some of our students have difficulty purchasing basic school supplies.

If there is one universal commonality among all children it is their natural curiosity.

My students are no different. This makes them particularly interested in science. Together, we use this curiosity to make discoveries such as how a magnet creates electricity or which adaptations a cheetah has that allow it to run so fast.

My Project

The fourth grade students are learning about sound and communication in their current science unit. It would be wonderful if they could experiment with different musical instruments and learn the science behind some musical instruments as well. Through musical exploration they can ask and answer so many scientific questions.

Why does one bell sound different from another?

How does the length of the bar change the pitch on a xylophone?

How does is loudness of an instrument relate to the amount of energy ?

How do vibrations from an instrument get to our ears?

What is a glockenspiel?
