Forget J.K. Rowling, the author that I think that is doing the most for the kids of today is Janice Van Cleave, author of a gazillion science fair projects. I am an elementary school science teacher in a poor area of New York City. Each Spring the 300 students I teach are responsible for a science fair project. Since most students receive free lunch, their only resources are the school and local library.
